Renovation or Relocation - A Big Decision

Buying and selling property is one of the biggest decision anyone takes in their life span. Sometimes a person needs to shift to a new location. There can be many reasons for this. It could be because of several reasons like they need more space as their family size has increased, career opportunity in some other location or something that the current home can not give them for example - a new room for a grown teenager, a playing place for a toddler, etc. Investing in new property is not a very easy task, in fact it is very tedious and stressful task. Thus most people give first preference to renovation but sometimes renovation is not even possible, then one has to relocate himself.

Following are the points which can be the reasons for moving :-

* If renovation is not possible
Probably it is the most common reason to move. Sometimes one can not renovate their home to suffice their needs. There may not be enough space to build a new room for the child who has entered his or her teenage or for guests. Even sometimes there is not enough space to build a kitchen the way your better half always wanted. Such situations make a person consider moving to a place which will fulfill all his or her needs.

* If the cost of renovation is very high
Even if renovation is possible but sometimes the cost attached to it may be too high. Also it may not increase the value of one’s home as most renovations comprise of addition of a room or minor increase in parking space. Not very often one completely bulldozes his or her home and builds it from scratch. Thus the value of the property may not increase as much as one might expect after renovation. As per the general rule, the higher is the expense for renovation, lesser the value gets added to one’s home in relation to the amount spent.

* If you can not deal with the mess
Renovation more often than not is a messy affair. It disrupts one’s daily life as one need to shift their goods and items from the part being renovated and place them in a way that the other rooms don’t get very cramped. If one is renovating the entire house then one needs to stack up majority of their goods in a safe location and shift to a temporary location so that they carry on with their daily life. Besides, one needs to keep check on how the renovation is being done and also go about their daily chores. Thus renovation is not a very hassle free tasks, one needs to take a lot of pain to get the renovation done properly. This sometimes makes one feel that it would have been better if they had gone for a new home instead of renovating the old one.

Thus looking into these points in my view one should not just concentrate on making money only but should also consider what kind of home and lifestyle one wants to live in. If the current home does not fulfills all the needs one has then one should consider moving. Sometimes buying a new property can provide more value for the money invested in it than the investment made in renovating the existing one. The choice to move or to renovate is entirely personal. One should know what he or she is trying to accomplish and has all the information one needs.
